Event Update Following Cancellation of 2025 Sprint and Paratriathlon Nationals

On Sunday, Aug. 10, an unprecedented weather event impacted the City of Milwaukee and surrounding communities.
In coordination with the City of Milwaukee, local authorities, emergency services, and our on-site safety and events teams, USA Triathlon made the difficult decision to cancel the Paratriathlon and Sprint Distance National Championships.
This decision was made following a state of emergency declared in Milwaukee County, coupled with unsafe water conditions, extensive flooding, significant course and venue damage, unsafe race conditions, and limited emergency response availability, as well as the forecast of additional severe weather.
We know how much time, training, and anticipation athletes put into preparing for this event, and we share in their disappointment of not being able to race on Sunday. This was not the outcome any of us wanted.
Athlete safety is — and always will be — USA Triathlon’s highest priority, and the organization stands behind the decision to cancel Sunday’s races.
USA Triathlon extends its appreciation to the City of Milwaukee, first responders, volunteers, and the multisport community for their resilience, and our thoughts remain with the Milwaukee residents impacted by the historic flooding.
Canceling a national championship of this scale involves many moving pieces, and our team is working diligently to navigate these complexities. USA Triathlon is actively working through all the next steps and will communicate updates to athletes as quickly as possible.
To help our community understand the extent of the impact, we are sharing images below that show the flooding, damage, and conditions across the race venue and surrounding areas from Sunday, Aug. 10.
Additionally, several race directors across the country have generously stepped up to provide discounts to their upcoming events for athletes affected by Sunday’s cancellation. These events are listed below.
