Seth Rider Places 6th at the debut 2022 World Triathlon Cup in Bergen, Norway
by USA Triathlon
BERGEN, Norway – Seth Rider (Germantown, Tenn.) produced his first individual top-ten finish of the year on the World Triathlon circuit, placing sixth at the 2022 World Triathlon Cup Bergen on Sunday.
This was the first-time that Norway hosted a World Triathlon Cup as Rider crossed the sprint-distance line (750-meter swim, 20.8-kilometer bike, 5-kilometer run) in 56 minutes and two seconds to earn the top result for the United States.
Bergen welcomed a stacked elite men’s roster, which included two 2020 Tokyo Olympic Gold Medallists, Norway’s own Kristian Blummenfelt and Great Britain’s Jonathan Brownlee. Rider held his own and executed a strong performance from start to finish, exiting the water just fourth in the field, which secured him into the leading bike pack of 13 and continued onto the run.
He crossed the line sixth, following behind the men’s podium of Frenchman Dorian Coninx who claimed victory in 55:37, along with Blummenfelt for the silver in a time of 55:38 and fellow Norweigian Vetle Bergsvik Thorn with the bronze (55:42).
Another solid result for the U.S. came from Matt McElroy (Huntington Beach, Calif.), who in his first World Triathlon Cup showing of the season placed 11th in a time of 56:38.
In the women’s race, Kirsten Kasper (North Andover, Mass.) entered the race wearing the number one spot on the starting line. She finished 10th overall, clocking a time of 1:03:25. Despite coming out the water in the middle of the pack, Kasper was able to push it on the bike to land among the leading group and then maintain her pace on the run to secure the top-ten result.
The remaining finishers for the U.S. were Brent Demarest (Charleston, S.C.) who placed 45th (59:26) and Davis Bove (Franklin, Tenn.) in 48th (59:52) in the men’s race.
The next World Triathlon Cup will be held in Valenica, Spain on September 3.
