COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The 2026 World Triathlon Para Series gets underway on Friday, March 13 as 10 U.S. paratriathletes will race in Devonport, Tasmania, Australia, in the season-opening World Triathlon Para Series Devonport. The event marks the first of five stops on the 2026 Para Series circuit, which will culminate with the World Triathlon Para Championships in Pontevedra, Spain, in September.
Devonport sets the stage for what promises to be a compelling season of elite paratriathlon competition, with U.S. athletes competing across six Paralympic sport classes. The U.S. contingent features a mix of seasoned veterans and hungry competitors eager to make their mark early in the season.
U.S. ATHLETES TO WATCH
Paris 2024 Paralympian gold medalist and 2025 world champion Chris Hammer leads the U.S. contingent in Australia, where he’ll race in the men’s PTS5 race. He’ll face stiff competition from Australia’s Jack Howell, who finished second behind Hammer at last year’s World Triathlon Para Championships in Wollongong, Australia.
Paris 2024 Paralympian Howie Sanborn and developing paratriathlete Justin Pines will represent the U.S. in the men’s PTWC classification, looking to establish early momentum in what is expected to be a highly competitive field.
The PTS2 men's class features Paris 2024 Paralympic medalists Mohamed Lahna and Mark Barr, and fellow U.S. teammate Kyle Stepp. The trio will look to make a strong statement on the international stage as the season gets underway.
Paris 2024 Paralympic silver medalist Carson Clough will represent the U.S. in the men’s PTS4 class, while Paris 2024 Paralympian Owen Cravens, along with guide Kevin McDowell, will compete in the men’s PTVI class.
On the women's side, Michelle Dynes and Virginia Ogburn will both race in the PTS5 class, giving the two developing athletes valuable racing experience.
