World Triathlon is thrilled to share that the International Paralympic Committee and the Los Angeles Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic 2028 LA 2028 Games (LA28) today announced that Venice Beach will be the venue for Para triathlon at the LA28 Paralympic Games, offering an unprecedented 12 medal opportunities to Para triathletes. Building on the success of previous Games, the iconic coastal neighborhood of Venice Beach, California, will ensure a world-class competition in a vibrant and accessible setting.

For the first time, all Para triathlon classes will be represented with medal opportunities, showcasing the depth and breadth of talent within the sport. A total of 12 medals (PTWC, PTVI, PTS2, PTS3, PTS4 and PTS5 for both men and women) will be awarded at the LA28 Paralympic Games, with a total of 120 Para athletes competing.

In 2028, Venice Beach will deliver an exciting lineup of events, including Para Triathlon and the starting point of Para Marathon.

"World Triathlon is delighted that we have one more medal event than in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. This announcement marks a significant step forward for Para triathlon and reflects our dedication to creating a truly inclusive and equitable sport," said World Triathlon President Antonio Arimany. "We are incredibly excited to see all Para triathlon classes represented on the Paralympic stage in LA, and we are confident that the event will inspire audiences worldwide."

Since the debut of Para triathlon at the Paralympic Games in Rio 2016, World Triathlon has been committed to providing the same high-quality experience for Para athletes as for able-bodied athletes, consistently sharing the same venue. Furthermore, World Triathlon has steadily increased the presence of Para triathlon at the Paralympic Games, going from 6 medal events in Rio, to 8 in Tokyo, 11 in Paris and now 12 in LA.

The LA28 Paralympic Games will also mark a significant milestone in achieving total parity in Para triathlon, with the same number of medals and athletes allocated to both male and female competitions.
