Voting for 2021 USA Triathlon Board of Directors and Athletes’ Advisory Council Election Opens Sept. 15

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Voting for the 2021 USA Triathlon Board of Directors and Athletes’ Advisory Council Election opens on Wednesday, Sept. 15 with nine candidates running for five positions.
This year’s nominations yielded a deep and diverse candidate pool, including elite athletes who have competed at the international, national and collegiate levels, age group athletes, club leaders and race directors. Candidates’ priorities range from growing the sport among youth and females and increasing minority representation at all levels to focusing on the wellbeing of athletes, promoting short course racing and bringing attention to NCAA triathlon, among other areas.
The election will stay open from September 15 to October 15. All USA Triathlon Annual Members are eligible to vote for the one General Director position for the USA Triathlon Board of Directors. Elite license holders, Elite 10 Year Athletes and Elite 10 + Year Athletes, as defined by Section 6.8 of USA Triathlon’s Bylaws, can vote for the USA Triathlon Athletes’ Advisory Council seats. Additionally, Elite 10 Year Athletes are eligible to vote for the two Athlete Director positions for the USA Triathlon Board of Directors. Members will receive a personalized link to cast their votes via email.
The Board of Directors is composed of 12 members who represent the interests of the sport of triathlon in the United States by providing USA Triathlon with policy, guidance and strategic direction.
Nomination Process
The nomination process ran from July 7 to August 13. Nominees were required to be members in good standing of USA Triathlon, citizens of the United States, 18 years of age or older and meet the additional qualifications contained in Section 6.4 of the USA Triathlon Bylaws.
Candidates for the Athlete Director positions had to either meet the definition of “Elite 10 Year Athlete” or “Elite 10 + Year Athlete” contained in Section 6.8 of the USA Triathlon Bylaws.
Candidates for the Athletes’ Advisory Council positions must either meet the definition of “Elite 10 Year Athlete” or “Elite 10 + Year Athlete” contained in Section 6.8 of the USA Triathlon Bylaws.
The candidates were selected from the pool in accordance with USA Triathlon Bylaws Section 6.6.
General Director Nominees
Dr. Tekemia Dorsey (Middle River, MD)
Dr. Tekemia Dorsey currently serves as General Director on the USA Triathlon Board of Directors. Dr. Dorsey is the recipient of the USOPC 2020 Rings of Gold – Individual Award Winner and a founding member of USA Triathlon’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access Working Group. Dr. Dorsey works on the local and national level to increase minority representation at all levels and hopes to use her next term on the Board to continue her short- and long-term goals in this area.
Mr. Marcus Fitts (Washington, DC)
Marcus Fitts was the recipient of 2020 USA Triathlon’s Community Impact Coach of the Year and has founded two triathlon-endurance clubs in the DC-metro area. Mr. Fitts’ current endeavor focuses on developing adult and high school athletes and enacting socio-cultural and economic change. Mr. Fitts’ goal on the Board is to ensure all individuals feel included and represented in the multisport community.
Athlete Director Nominees
Mrs. Sarah Alexander (South Orange, NJ)
Sarah Alexander’s competitive history spans age group amateur racing, World Triathlon, and professional long-course racing, providing her a multi-faceted understanding of triathlon. Mrs. Alexander is passionate about giving back to the sport, and believes both her experience at all levels of racing and professional expertise and working as a Consultant for Boston Consulting Group will provide a valuable perspective on the Board.
Mr. William Huffman (New York, NY)
William Huffman is a former elite triathlete who currently competes as an age group amateur. Mr. Huffman wants to give back to the triathlon community and play a role in the continued success of USA Triathlon.
Mrs. Kelly O’Mara (San Rafael, CA)
Kelly O’Mara currently competes as a professional athlete and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Triathlete. At Triathlete, Mrs. O’Mara has worked to increase diversity and inclusion in its storytelling and photography, with more BIPOC writers, images and issues appearing in print and online, and brings extensive industry connections by virtue of Outside’s portfolio. On the Board, she would bring insight on the mindset of today’s top athletes, continue her focus on diversity and help grow the sport at all levels.
Mrs. Erin Storie (Fort Benning, GA)
Erin Storie is seeking election to both the Athletes’ Advisory Council and Board of Directors as an Athlete Director. Mrs. Storie has served on the Athletes’ Advisory Council for five years, and previously served on the Board of Directors. Mrs. Storie looks to increase female participation at all levels of the sport, promote short course and mixed relay, and amplify NCAA triathlon.
Athletes’ Advisory Council Nominees
Mr. Greg Billington (San Francisco, CA)
Incumbent Greg Billington represented USA in the 2016 Rio Olympics and as a Guide to gold medalist Brad Snyder in the 2020 Paralympics. Mr. Billington hopes to use his prior experience on the Athletes’ Advisory Council and new experience on the Elite Paratriathlon Team to better represent the needs of all athletes and focus on the wellbeing of athletes on and off the course.
Ms. Chelsea Burns (Seattle, WA)
Chelsea Burns competed as a USA Triathlon Elite from 2013 to 2019, retiring from elite competition in 2020. Ms. Burns remains involved in triathlon as a NCAA coach and assisting with the College Recruitment Program. On the Athletes’ Advisory Council, Ms. Burns aims to bridge the gap between athletes and USA Triathlon, using her experience to provide insight and develop solutions.
Mrs. Erin Storie (Fort Benning, GA)

Mrs. Storie has served on the Athletes’ Advisory Council for five years, and previously served on the Board of Directors. Mr. Robby Webster (Tacoma, WA)
Robby Webster entered the elite scene in 2014 and is still competing. Mr. Webster has a diverse understanding of training and funding structures as he has trained as a part of elite U.S. programs and with international federations since 2014. Mr. Webster looks to use his experiences in the elite triathlon climate to help elite athletes develop and move their careers forward in a positive way.
