Champions Crowned at 2025 USA Triathlon Ultra Distance Nationals in Penn Yan, New York

PENN YAN, N.Y. - Athletes raced to earn National Championship titles in Ultra-Distance Triathlon, Duathlon and Aquabike on Sunday, Aug. 17 at the 2025 USA Triathlon Ultra Distance National Championships. 

The event, held in conjunction with First Knight Racing and the Peasantman Steel Distance Triathlon Series, was selected by Triathlete as one of the best long distance triathlons in the country in 2023 and 2025. The course consisted of a swim in Keuka Lake, followed by a bike ride on rolling hills through the countryside of the Finger Lakes region, and finished with a run alongside the lake. 

Athletes racing in the Ultra Distance National Championships competed in the unique “Steel Distance,” which includes a slightly longer-than-traditional ultra-distance bike course. Triathletes raced a 2.4-mile swim, 116-mile bike, and 26.2-mile run, while duathletes racing the Ultra Distance Duathlon National Championships raced a 6.55-mile run, 116-mile bike, and a 19.65-mile run. Swim-bike athletes competing in the Ultra-Distance Aquabike National Championships completed a 2.4-mile swim and 116-mile bike. 

Marty Hess (Durham, N.C.) won the Ultra Distance Triathlon National Championships in a time of 11 hours, 1 minute, and 58 seconds. He was followed in by Galen McLaughlin (Willow Grove Pa.) in a time of 11:09:40 and Michael Riley (Philadelphia, Pa.) in 11:43:01. 

Ashley Blake (Hudson, N.H.) won the women’s Ultra Distance Triathlon National Championships race in a time of 11:42:29. Madelen Bullis (Windsor Mill, Md.) placed second in 13:39:59 and Rebecca Angles (Charleston, S.C.) placed third in 14:51:31. 

In the Ultra Distance Duathlon National Championships, Yaniv Yarkoni (Hillsborough, N.J.) placed first in 9:52:50. Brad Bischoff (Newton, N.J.) followed in a time of 10:11:44 and Bradford Henderson (Wexford, Pa.) placed third in 10:53:56. 

Maggie Freeman (Millstone Township, N.J.)  won the women’s race in a time of 11:14:26 and Jaime Reel (Bristow, Va.) placed second in 16:24:48. 

Felicity Joyce (Greenbrae, Calif.) won the women’s title in the Ultra Distance Aquabike National Championships in 6:36:35. Stephanie Vanbebber (Fairfax, Va.) placed second in a time of 6:55:37 and Sarah Hess (Corning, N.Y.) placed third in 7:36:05. 

Marc Silberman (North Plainfield, N.J.) won the men’s title in 6:45:12, followed by David Chung (Princeton, N.J.) and Neil Sergott (Clifton Park, N.Y.) in 8:20:14 and 10:36:41, respectively.
