USA Triathlon Announces Slate of 2026 State Championships
by USA Triathlon
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Triathlon today unveiled the dates and locations for the 2026 USA Triathlon State Championships, a calendar of local USA Triathlon sanctioned events across the United States that give athletes around the country the opportunity to race for state titles and qualify for 2026 USA Triathlon Nationals.
USA Triathlon selected the State Championship events after a thorough request for proposal process, partnering with local USA Triathlon Race Directors who produce grassroots events in their communities.
State Championships offer both sprint and Olympic-distance triathlon events, with some events also featuring formats such as duathlon (run-bike-run). The top athletes per age group will be crowned state champions. No qualification is required to participate in State Championship events.
In addition to racing for state titles, athletes racing at State Championships will have increased odds to qualify for 2026 USA Triathlon Nationals, the annual event that requires qualification for the Sprint and Olympic Distance National Championships. State Championships qualify the top 35 percent, or top five finishers in their age group (whichever is greater) for USA Triathlon Nationals. Normal qualification criteria are the top three, or 20 percent of an athlete’s age group (whichever is greater).
Additionally, USA Triathlon will introduce a new State Championship format in Florida and Massachusetts for the 2026 season. The new format promotes local racing and offers more racing opportunities within each state for the right to be crowned a State Champion. More details about the new State Championship format will be announced soon.

Note: California, New York, and Texas include North and South State Championships events.
Tennessee will host a men’s-only and women’s-only State Championship.
Those states without a State Championship are combined with a State Championship in an adjoining state.
