NICE, France — The best professional and age group women triathletes raced at the 2024 IRONMAN Women's World Championships on Sept. 22 in Nice, France, racing on a challenging, scenic course from the Mediterranean to the mountains.
The oldest competitor in the race, Missy LeStrange, won the world title in the women's 70-74 age group. A USA Triathlon Hall of Fame member, LeStrange now has 19 IRONMAN age group titles.
Two other U.S. women won world titles in their age groups: Judy McNary won the world championship in her 65-69 age group, while Christine Glah captured the title in the 60-64 age group.
McNary's U.S. compatriots, Janie White and Kate Samuelson joined her on the 65-69 podium.
Beni Gras-Thompson also landed on the podium, finishing runner-up in the 50-54 age group.
U.S. professional Chelsea Sodaro placed third in the elite race, returning to the IRONMAN World Championship podium after her breakthrough 2022 world title.
Germany's Laura Philipp won the world title, finishing with a time of 8 hours, 45 minutes, 15 seconds. Kat Matthews of Great Britain placed second in 8:53:20.
Congratulations to all racers on the amazing accomplishment!
