Team USA mixed relay team entrance in Hamburg
HAMBURG, Germany – The United States claimed fourth place at the Mixed Relay World Championships in Hamburg, Germany on Sunday, July 16 to conclude three days of elite racing.
The four-person team, made up of U.S. Elite Triathlon National Team Members Seth Rider (Germantown, Tenn.), Taylor Spivey (Redondo Beach, Calif.), Matt McElroy (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Summer Rappaport (Thornton, Colo.), battled their way to a time of 1 hour, 22 minutes and 50 seconds – missing the podium by 48 seconds.
With the man-woman-man-woman format, Rider led off the U.S. to take on the 300-meter swim, 7-kilometer bike, 1.75k run. He tagged off to Spivey 28 seconds back of the lead pack.

The third leg, McElroy, tagged to anchor woman Rappaport, who caught Team Hungary in the last lap to pull the U.S. to fourth.
