USA Triathlon Launches New State Championship Series in Florida and Massachusetts for 2026
by USA Triathlon
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — USA Triathlon today announced the launch of the 2026 State Championship Series in Florida and Massachusetts, a new pilot program designed to elevate local racing, strengthen community engagement, and recognize the most competitive age group triathletes in each state.
Beginning in 2026, athletes in Florida and Massachusetts will have the opportunity to earn a State Champion title in their age group by completing at least three USA Triathlon-sanctioned triathlon events within their home state during the season. The series includes all USA Triathlon sanctioned triathlons, at any distance, creating an inclusive and accessible pathway for athletes across both states.
The State Championship Series is designed to promote local racing, streamline the championship pathway, and utilize USA Triathlon’s existing Rankings system to determine age group State Champions.
How the State Championship Series Works
To qualify for a State Championship title in either Florida or Massachusetts, athletes must:
- Complete at least three USA Triathlon–sanctioned triathlon races in their state during the 2026 season
- Hold a USA Triathlon membership with a home address in that state
- At the end of the season, an eligible athlete’s USA Triathlon Rankings will determine the State Champion in each age group
- State Champions will also receive a special certificate from USA Triathlon
Athletes can find USA Triathlon sanctioned events by visiting USA Triathlon’s Events Calendar and filtering by state:
Strengthening Local Racing and Community Connections
The State Championship Series initiative is designed to support and energize local racing communities by encouraging athletes to participate in multiple events close to home. All USA Triathlon sanctioned triathlon events within Florida and Massachusetts are automatically included, allowing race directors across both states to showcase their events as part of a larger statewide competition.
USA Triathlon encourages athletes in Florida and Massachusetts to begin planning their 2026 race schedules and to look for the State Championship Series designation on sanctioned event websites.
