COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — USA Triathlon today announced the launch of a new Associate Coach Certification, offering members of the multisport community an entry point into coaching the sport and USA Triathlon’s Coach Development Pathway.

The Associate Coach Certification is developed for assistant coaches, high school coaches, parents or athletes helping to coach a triathlon team and are interested in USA Triathlon’s expert Coaching Education offerings. As an introduction to coaching multisport, the new online Associate Coach Certification course provides introductory information on coaching philosophy and training styles.

“I’m thrilled for members of the multisport community to begin their coaching journey with USA Triathlon through our new Associate Coach Certification. Coaches have a lasting, tremendous impact on the athletes they coach and are so vital to the growth of multisport in the U.S.,” said USA Triathlon CEO Victoria Brumfield. “USA Triathlon’s dedicated and expert Coaching Education team is here to support members on their coaching journey with diversified education resources to equip new coaches with the tools to confidently and safely guide athletes.”

“The Associate Coach Certification is a great, affordable way for an athlete, assistant coach or anyone invested in the multisport community to deepen their knowledge about multisport and learn at their own pace from world-class experts,” said Scott Schnitzspahn, USA Triathlon High Performance General Manager. “The Associate Coach Certification is an excellent stepping-stone for individuals who want to start their coaching career and begin the journey to USA Triathlon Level I Certification.”

The online education of the Associate Coach Certification includes a general introduction to the different competition styles of multisport, with introductory courses on the swim, bike, run, and transition portions of a triathlon competition. Certified Associate Coaches are encouraged to work under the supervision of current USA Triathlon Level I Certified or higher coaches.

Once completed, the Associate Coach Certification is valid for four years. The recertification process includes the four-course Level I bridge series to become a USA Triathlon Level I Certified Coach. As part of the recertification cycles, coaches will progressively learn more about coaching triathlon, including strength, and conditioning and developing training programs.

The initial cost of Associate Coach Certification is $125. To learn more about USA Triathlon’s Associate Coach Certification and USA Triathlon’s Coaching Education Pathway, visit USA Triathlon’s website here. For more information and to contact USA Triathlon's Coaching Education team, email
