Age Group Team USA Earns 39 Medals at the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals Wollongong

WOLLONGONG, Aus. - Nearly 400 U.S. athletes represented Age Group Team USA at the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals in Wollongong, Australia, from Oct. 15–19, earning a combined 39 medals against the world’s top amateur multisport athletes.

The five-day event celebrated different multisport formats and featured four Age Group World Championships including the Standard Distance Triathlon, Standard Aquabike, Sprint Distance Triathlon, and Mixed Relay. Events kicked off on Oct. 15 with the Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremony.

Age Group Team USA had a strong start to the competition on Oct. 16, winning five gold medals in the Age Group Standard Distance Championship which consists of a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bike, and 10-kilometer run.  

The five Age Group Team USA athletes who won world championship titles: 

  • Kirsten Sass (F45-49) 
  • Linda Robb (F60-64) 
  • Robyn Williams (F65-69) 
  • John Cahill (Open 65-69) 
  • Peggy McDowell-Cramer (F80-84) 

Additionally, the team won two silver medals and seven bronze. 

Competition on Oct. 16 also included the Age Group Standard Aquabike Championship, which consists of a 1.5-kilometer swim and 40-kilometer bike.  

Catherine Frye and Drew Magill each won gold in the women’s and open 60-64 age groups, with their Age Group Team USA teammates earning four silver medals and four bronze medals.  

Team USA continued racing on Oct. 17 with the Sprint Distance Championship, which consists of a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike, and 5k run. Leading Team USA was Kirsten Sass, who also won the 45-49 age group in the Standard Distance Championship, and Keith Tufte, who won the Open 75-79 division. Team USA athletes also earned five silver medals and five bronze medals. 

Team USA Age Group athletes competed in the Triathlon Mixed Relay Championship on Oct. 19, which featured teams of four athletes each completing a 300-meter swim, 5.6-kilometer bike, and 1.4-kilometer run. Marisa Rastetter, Kirk Framke, Steph Popelar, and Peter Valentyik placed third overall in the 200-239 Age Group. Team USA also earned two medals in the 240-279 Age Group. Tracy Kellner, Bill Bender, Chrystel Kippenhan, and Jim Taylor placed second, while Alicia Caldwell, Jeremy Oury, Michele Tuttle, and Thom Schmidt placed third to close out a strong week of racing at the World Championships.
