OMAHA, Neb. — Age group multisport athletes raced the exciting draft-legal format at Lake Cunningham on Saturday, June 7 at the 2025 USA Triathlon Multisport National Championships Festival Presented by Mutual of Omaha. Athletes competed for national titles in Draft-Legal Sprint Triathlon & Sprint Duathlon National Championships.
Draft-legal racing is the same format elite triathletes race at the World Triathlon level and Olympic Games. With drafting allowed on the bike, athletes racing in draft-legal events ride and work together in packs, creating a dynamic, exciting race..
The five-day Multisport National Championships Festival celebrates multisport’s diverse race formats, with athletes racing for titles in the following National Championships:
• Draft-legal Triathlon National Championships
• Duathlon (run-bike-run) National Championships (standard and draft-legal sprint distances)
• Aquathlon (run-swim-run) National Championships
• Aquabike (swim-bike) National Championships (standard distance)
• Super Sprint Triathlon Time Trial National Championships
• Super Sprint Duathlon Time Trial National Championships
• Mixed Relay Triathlon & Duathlon National Championships

DRAFT-LEGAL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Athletes on Saturday afternoon raced the Draft-Legal Sprint Triathlon National Championships, consisting of a 750m swim, 20k bike, followed by a 5k run.
Isaac Green, a former collegiate runner at the University of Washington, won the men’s overall national championship in the Draft-Legal Sprint Triathlon. Green showed his NCAA Division I speed by running a 16-minute 5k to come from behind and win the sprint triathlon in a time of 1 hour, 2 minutes, 40 seconds.
“I like running. Running is my thing. So I was confident going into the 5k. I wanted to get it as close as I could before the turn,” said Green, who was in fourth place after the second transition. “It was a good day. Good temperature for it and good competition.”
The women’s Draft-Legal Sprint Triathlon National Championship race featured competitive racing, with Stephanie Oechsner (St. Peters, Mo.) taking the overall national title, her second of the weekend. She also won the Aquabike National Championships title on Thursday.
“I was here last year and love the course. The hills on the bike are my jam. Today, I woke up and was ready to race,” said Oechsner, who broke away on the bike, charging strong to stay ahead of the strong field of women. “I knew to have any chance against Kirsten (Sass, 45-49 age group champion), Michelle (Christine, 40-44 age group champion) and these amazing athletes and runners, I just had to grind out the bike and survive the run. My running is always like I’m running for my life, especially with these girls.”
Racing on Saturday morning opened with the Draft-Legal Sprint Duathlon National Championships, which consisted of a 2.5-kilometer run, followed by a 20k bike and a 1.5k run.
Sean Price (Long Beach, Calif.) won the men’s Draft-Legal Sprint Duathlon National Championships overall title, running a time of 59:16 to hold off Stephen Eles (Boulder, Colo.) by 8 seconds.
Price, who has before finished on the overall podium in the Draft-Legal Sprint Duathlon National Championships, but never with the gold, said Saturday’s win “was a long time coming.”
Kirsten Sass (McKenzie, Tenn.) won the women’s Draft-Legal Sprint Duathlon National Championships title, cruising to victory in 1:06:58. The title is her fourth overall national championships title at the 2025 Multisport National Championships Festival. She now has more than 50 overall and age group national titles in her illustrious career.
In addition to racing for age group national championships, athletes also raced to qualify to represent age group Team USA at 2025 World Triathlon Age Group World Championships. For more information about Team USA, comprised of the nation’s top amateur multisport athletes who represent the U.S. at World Triathlon Age Group World Championship events, visit www.usatriathlon.org/our-community/age-group-team-usa.
More than 50 athletes are attempting to race five or more events for the chance to earn the title of “Multisport Master.” Athletes crowned as Multisport Master will receive a special belt buckle.
