Taylor Spivey, John Reed Lead U.S. Elites at World Triathlon Championship Series French Riviera
by USA Triathlon
FRÉJUS, FRANCE — Taylor Spivey (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and John Reed (Virginia Beach, Va.) paced the U.S. Elite Triathlon squad at the World Triathlon Championship Series French Riviera on Sunday, Aug. 31, finishing seventh and 16th, respectively, against a deep international field in a fast sprint-distance showdown along the Mediterranean coast.
The race featured a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike, and 5-kilometer run on a technical, scenic course that rewarded both pack positioning and leg speed.
Australia’s Matt Hauser executed a near-perfect race to dominate the men’s field and secure the gold, continuing his commanding form in the 2025 series with his third consecutive Series win. On the women’s side, France’s Cassandre Beaugrand took the top spot in front of her home country crowd.
Spivey led the way for the U.S. women, racing in the lead pack and finishing seventh for another top-10 finish on the WTCS circuit. The longtime U.S. Elite Triathlon National Team member has been racing on both the short-course and long-course, non-drafting T100 Series this season. She completed Sunday's course in a time of 57 minutes, 15 seconds.
Similarly, Morgan Pearson (New Vernon, N.J.) has also raced both the short-course and the T100 Series this season. He raced in Saturday's T100 Series French Riviera, placing sixth for his best finish in three races on the T100 Series. For the second time this season, he posted the field's fastest swim and run splits during the 100-kilometer race. He also raced Sunday's sprint-distance WTCS French Riviera, placing 26th.
Reed led the U.S. men with a 16th-place finish, clocking a time of 52:28.
