Age Group Team USA Athletes Win 35 Medals in Spain at the 2025 World Triathlon Multisport Championships Pontevedra

PONTEVEDRA, Spain – More than 200 U.S. athletes represented Age Group Team USA, competing among the world’s best multisport athletes at the 2025 World Triathlon Multisport Championships in Pontevedra, Spain, from June 20-29.  

Age Group Team USA athletes won 35 medals, including 14 golds, as the U.S. finished fourth in the overall medal standings. 

The 10-day event celebrated multisport and featured seven World Championship events, including the Sprint Duathlon, Standard Duathlon, Cross Triathlon, Cross Duathlon, Aquathlon, Long Distance Duathlon, and Long Distance Aquabike. Athletes also represented their country at the Opening Ceremony, Parade of Nations and Closing Ceremony party. 

The following athletes won world championships in their respective age groups:  

  • Susan Griffin-Kaklikian (Colorado Springs, Colo.), F70-74, Cross Triathlon and Aquathlon 
  • Grace Plager (Naples, Fla), F65-69, Sprint Duathlon 
  • Gary Holt (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Open 50-54, Standard Duathlon  
  • Larry Nelson (Hixson, Tenn.), Open 80-84, Standard Duathlon 
  • Angie Crabo (Scottsdale, Ariz), F55-59, Cross Duathlon  
    Cande Olson (Morristown, N.J.), F75-79, Cross Duathlon 
  • Colleen Burns (Massapequa, N.Y.), F75-79, Aquathlon 
  • Luise Easton (Westlake, Ohio), 85-89, Aquathlon 
  • CJ Geiger (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.), Open 18-19, Long Distance Triathlon 
  • Benita Gras-Thompson (Roanoke, Va.), F50-54, Long Distance Triathlon (overall female winner)  
  • Kieran Dolan (Atascadero, Calif.), Open 18-19, Long Distance Aquabike 
  • Blair Saunders (Newark, Del.), Open 60-64, Long Distance Aquabike 
  • Maggie Riley-Hagan (Carlsbad, Calif.), F70-74, Long Distance Aquabike 

Two Age Group Team USA athletes earned the prestigious title of Multisport Legend, awarded to athletes who complete five or more races during the 10-day event.  

Scott Croner (Papillion, Neb.) and Jeff Dorrill (Dallas, Texas) accomplished the ultimate endurance test, each completing six races in Spain. The pair are two of only 20 athletes from across the globe to earn the title of Multisport Legend. Croner has now twice accomplished the feat, becoming the first U.S. athlete to do so.  

In addition to the Opening Ceremony, Parade of Nations and Closing Ceremony, USA Triathlon also honored and celebrated longtime Age Group Team USA athletes. The Honors Ceremony celebrates the athletes who have represented Age Group Team USA at 10 or more World Championships.

  • Philip Friedman (Erie, Pa.) – 15 
  • Michael O’Riley (Colorado Springs, Colo.) – 10

  • Peter Harvey (Piedmont, Calif.) -10 
  • Duane Fritchie (Lee’s Summit, Mo.)– 10 
  • Judith Reiberg (Miami, Fla.)– 10 
  • Colleen Burns (Massapequa, N.Y.)– 10 
  • Jonathon Sasser (Raleigh, N.C.)- 10
