    USA Triathlon's coach development pathway. Coaches may enter either at the Associate Level or Level 1. Upon reaching Level 1 certification, they take a Level I Area of Focus course before moving onto a Level II Specialization. Level III, elite international coaching, is an option for a select number of candidates.

    Level I Certification Requirements

    For USA Triathlon Level I Coach Certification, candidates must complete and/or submit the following:

    • Completion of the Level I Coach Certification Course

    • Green Light (Clear) NCSI Background Check (PDF)

    • SafeSport Training Certification

    • CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification

    • USA Triathlon Annual Membership

    • Review USOPC Coaching Code of Conduct

    Area of Focus

    • Area of Focus

      Within the first two years of certification, a Level I coach is required to take at least one Area of Focus course before recertification. Area of Focus courses give a coach additional skills surrounding one important part of multisport coaching.

    Level I Coach Recertification Overview

    A USA Triathlon Coach Certification is valid for two (2) years. Recertification ensures that coaches continue to challenge themselves and further their knowledge and is critical to remain informed on the latest information and expertise within the triathlon industry.

    In order to maintain a USA Triathlon Coach Certification, coaches must complete recertification by their recertification deadline. USA Triathlon’s recertification process consists of completing specified requirements as well as submitting a recertification application.
