Level II Certification

  • Associate Level
  • Level I
  • Areas of Focus
  • Level III
USA Triathlon's coach development pathway. Coaches may enter either at the Associate Level or Level 1. Upon reaching Level 1 certification, they take a Level I Area of Focus course before moving onto a Level II Specialization. Level III, elite international coaching, is an option for a select number of candidates.

Level II Certification culminates with coaches completing a Specialization Clinic. In order to participate in a clinic, they must have taken the clinic's preceeding Level I Area of Focus course (Level I Short Course Area of Focus > Level II Short Course Specialization Clinic, etc.).

More on Specialization Clinics

For a USA Triathlon Level I Certified Coach to be eligible to advance to Level II, they must meet all required criteria and have earned a minimum of eight Professional Advancement Units (PAUs).

Note: USAT has recently updated its coaching development pathway to this process, but there will be flexibility in the selection process during this transition period. If you have any questions during or after the application process, email coaching@usatriathlon.org.
