Nearly 400 Age Group Team USA Athletes to Race at World Triathlon Championships Pontevedra

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Nearly 400 U.S. multisport athletes representing age group Team USA will compete this week in Pontevedra, Spain, for the 2023 World Triathlon Age-Group Championships Pontevedra.
Three multisport events are set to take place over the course of two days as athletes compete in Standard-Distance Triathlon, Super Sprint Triathlon and Standard-Distance Aquabike (swim-bike).
Team USA is the group of age-group athletes that qualify at USA Triathlon National Championships for the right to represent the United States and compete in the World Triathlon World Championships, which attracts the best athletes representing over 50 countries each year.
Following the opening ceremony and Parade of Nations, the first age-group competition will take place on Friday, Sept. 22 with the Super Sprint Distance Championships. The course will feature a 400-meter swim, 10-kilometer bike and 2.3k run. One hundred fifteen Team USA athletes are on the start list, including 17-year-old Julian Barre (Jacksonville, Fla.) and 85-year-old John Charman (San Antonio, Texas), the youngest and oldest members of Team USA.
Sunday, Sept. 24 features both the Standard Distance Triathlon Championship and Standard-Distance Aquabike Championships to close out the World Championship week.
Two hundred forty-seven Team USA athletes in the Standard Triathlon will race a 1500-meter swim, 38.9-kilometer bike and a 10-kilometer run.
The Standard-Distance Aquabike World Championship race includes 110 Team USA athletes who will take on the swim-bike format featuring a 1500m swim and 38.9k bike course.
